Collecting or Decorating? What is the difference?
Collectors buy art because they love it. They feel a genuine pride in ownership and a connection to the art or artist. They are often not concerned about how the art will fit into their space. Each piece is a treasure, and they are essentially building a treasure chest (collection) they can enjoy and appreciate.
Collecting is a process. Acquisitions can be well researched or completely spontaneous. Either way, it is very enriching and often quite educational.
Decorating with art begins with a different mindset. The art is selected to complement and enhance a specific space. Existing furnishings. architecture, colors and textures are considered when making art selections. The art may be intended to blend in or make a statement.
The total look, the ambience, the budget and style are the primary considerations.
